CAMP WITH NATURE
By Devreyn Mae V. Nepomuceno, Philippines
Crossing the Bridge, Pagtatap Youth Camp, Malumpati Cold Spring, Pandan, Antique, Philippines It's a good thing that the PAGTATAP Foundation organized a 3-day youth camp in a mountain area. For me, it was a total outdoor experience, a time to get closer to nature, and a cool summer getaway. But this camping trip was not just for fun because we also came to experience, share, and learn the true meaning of service.

We started off by congregating at the town's park. Moments later, we were all aboard the municipality's clean, green truck. We were ready and raring to go!!! Our excitement was in no way diminished by the glaring heat of the sun and the bumpy ride on our way up to our destination.

The "challenges" did not end yet because we still had to put up our tents. Building a tent was not that simple for us. It needed teamwork. The rain wasn't welcoming either. It rained, but we kept on working through mud and dirt and itchy skin. The guys cut bamboos for foundation. We put "tarapal" on top of the tent, counted to "3", and pulled as hard as we could. It took us the whole morning, but our hardship paid off when we saw our tent standing up and ready for our use.

Standing in front of our tent and admiring it, we looked at our "masterpiece" shelter. We were proud to say that we built our tent with our own hands and sweat. We had teamwork, and that made our work easier. As the saying goes, "Many hands make work lighter." Above all, it really made us feel so good.
