BEHIND THE TENTS!
By Leo Rectra and Allen Yuarata, Philippines
The word "bloopers" can never top the indefinable word I would use to
explain the things that happened during our youth camp. Of course, these things were scenes that our cameras didn't capture.
Let's start on the day before our camping trip. Although we were not carpenters, we showed some carpentry skills. The bamboos we purchased and used were of low quality, but we were able to erect our tents that were good enough to shelter us. We had more laughs and cackles over our hammering and shuffling around. On our first day, we looked like dumped trash loaded on a garbage truck to Malumpati. Our bags were dumped everywhere, sat on and squashed like pillows, not mindful of their breakable contents. If there was a camera man around, he may have said, "Oh my, look at all the refugees!" As our camping progressed, we had more bloopers. Some fell on muddy ground leaving bottom marks on the clay. Some mistakenly slept on others' tents. The forgetful ones slept with their soft drinks on their sleeping mats. We faced some challenges too. We looked really stupid passing through very high rings, twisting our bodies left and right to avoid touching the rattan hoop. Some were excited about rappelling. Ohers looked really worried, but afraid to be called "chickens," they forced themselves to wear the sophisticated ropes and belts just to show that they were also brave. At our cultural night, we showed our true colors. Even though we forgot our lines, we laughed off our blunders and persevered. The evening turned out to be so much fun. From my camping experience, I found out that regardless of all the work, challenges, and bloopers, as long as we stick to the plan, there's nothing more fun and enjoybale than laughter. So, laugh out loud!!! |
