Honorable Members of the Sanguniang Bayan:
I am a Pediatrician from Wyckoff, NJ, USA, but was originally from Centro-Norte, Pandan, Antique. I grew up in Pandan and lived there until I
graduated from PBI.
Being a doctor for children, I am very concerned over the idea of building a
Diesel Power Plant in Patria. Before you approve the construction of such a
deadly project, I am requesting you to consider the following:
1. Whereas, a diesel power plant promises to provide employment for a few
people, everybody in town, especially the children will suffer from the
hazards of gas poisoning.
2. Whereas, a diesel power plant will lower the prize of electricity and our
"kasimanwas" can save money because of it, the plants in our town will absorb the poisonous gas and oil from the power plant. As the gas and oil penetrate into the roots, trunks, stem, leaves, flowers and fruits of the plant, it becomes poisonous to anybody who eats it.
3. Whereas, the diesel power plant will give more money to the municipality
and increase the revenues of the town officials, our people will suffer from cancer and diseases that results from inhalation of poisonous fumes and oil. The symptoms of these diseases include nausea, vomiting, nasal congestion, cough, sneezing, abdominal cramps, fainting, dizziness, choking, and skin rashes.
4. Whereas the diesel power plant will fatten the pockets of a few people, many will suffer from cancer, tuberculosis, pneumonia, bronchitis, rhinitis, hypoxia, and even death. The rivers and the sea will be polluted and all the fishes, shrimps, shell fish will be poisoned.
Please be informed that I am personally opposed to the building of this plant
and I will do everything in my power to influence our people in Pandan to
oppose its construction.
I am therefore appealing to you to consider the health of our people over and
above the monetary benefits to a few people who will be employed by the plant.
